Position Summary

Stone Environmental, Inc. is seeking an environmental engineer with a strong background in environmental investigation and remediation. The successful applicant will provide technical support for a variety of projects such as soil and groundwater investigations at hazardous waste sites; and design and implementation of soil, groundwater, and soil gas remediation systems. The position involves travel for field work throughout Vermont. Occasional travel for project outside Vermont will be required.


Work will involve a variety of analysis and design; data collection, site assessment, and field work; preparation of engineering design calculations, drawings, and specifications; and technical research and report writing. Tasks may include pre-design site investigations, engineering design support, preparation of feasibility studies, design and performance of remedial pilot studies, development of construction cost estimates, development of operation and maintenance plans, bid specification development, solicitations, construction oversight, and reporting.

Required Skills/Experience

To be considered for this position, the following skills are required:

  • Experience conducting site investigations at contaminated sites
  • Experience with environmental due diligence
  • Legally able to work in the United States (proper documentation required)
  • Capacity to successfully manage multiple tasks and objectives
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Motivation and enthusiasm to learn new skills

Preferred Skills/Experience

  • Experience preparing Remedial Investigations/Feasibility Studies (RI/FSs)
  • Experience preparing Corrective Action Plans
  • Experience designing, installing, and/or operating remedial systems
  • Ability to use CAD software to develop site plans and figures
  • Ability to use geographic information systems (GIS) and relational database software
  • Knowledge of federal and Vermont regulatory processes and the Investigation and Remediation of Contaminated Properties Rule.

Experience Level and Education

  • A B.S. in Environmental or Civil Engineering or related field is required
  • Two to five years of relevant experience in the technical skill areas described above are required
  • Engineer-in-Training or Professional Engineer certification highly desirable
